[Novalug] Why?

Is java such an incredible tangle? I've been trying to set the java path in 
opera with no success. (OpenSUSE 10.3). I tried whereis to locate java. No 
success.

Then I brought up yast to see what files were installed. I got a very long 
list. It appears I have installations running from 1.4.0 to 1.6.0 and what 
appears to be separate Sun and non-Sun versions.

Can someone help me sort this out?
