Not sure - but Ubuntu should do what Fedora does here. If you have the 
computers networked - and in the same segment, you should simply enable 
the "share my files" option on your desktop. You can give it details of 
what files you want to share etc.  This sets up a basic WebDav link - 
and once you have choosen to share on both systems, each system can 
connect to the other can transfer files, just like you would copy files 
between folders on the desktop.

On my system it's under System->Preferences->Internet and Network->File 
sharing Preferences. And on my gnome I simply go to "Places" and look at 
the network places. That'll bring up any machine on my network that's 
also sharing (and my own). Clicking brings up a folder view - just like 
the files were locally on my computer. I can now edit, copy, move etc. 
on files (if I'm allowed to write that is).

Other options - NFS, smb, Scp/ssh, ftp, http ... ehhh, and a ton others!
