(I bothered subscribing to the list to reply to this, my girlfriend
and I managed to subscribe to different local area linux mailing lists
when we moved up here and occasionally cross-forward each other
messages, but I've never bothered to subscribe over here. ;) )

Fldigi (http://www.w1hkj.com/Fldigi.html) is really great.   I've also
used hamlib to remotely control the radio.

There is the linux port/frontend for VOACAP
(http://homepage.mac.com/jimwatson/voacapl/) which does predictions of
ionospheric behavior for HF propagation.   It easy to use ... er, if
you're the sort that finds scientific simulations written in Fortran
easy to use. (Fortunately I am.. ;) )

If radio is something you find interesting then you'll probably find
GNU Radio very interesting (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuradio/).

If you're interested in the intersection of Radio and Free software,
you might have enough patience to read a essay (rant? :) ) I wrote on
