Hi Mark,
I am WC4B.
I am a hard-core DXer, so I use a couple of programs that
I wrote to monitor the DX-cluster via telnet and then
filter and display the output to make it more useful to
me.
I use another program I wrote to identify countries by
call sign, tell me what bands and modes I need the country
on, compute the beam heading, and display various other
information.
I have not released any of the above programs (they are
not really ready yet) but would be happy to give anyone
a copy of the source under the GPL. It's all C++.
I use minicom to interface to my hardware RTTY modem.
Along the same lines, I am starting to bring up fldigi so
I can work other digital modes using the sound card. So
far I am just using it in receive-only mode (haven't built
the interface cables for transmit yet) with the Puppy Linux
live cd that W1HKJ distributes. Based on what I have seen
of it so far, I share the recommendation that it is an
excellent program. I plan to eventually run it (tied into
hamlib for rig control and a logging program like xlog)
natively under my regular Centos 5.1 installation.
I also occasionally use ibp to help me monitor the
international beacon network, miniprop to do crude hf
propagation predictions (haven't yet learned how to
use VOACAP and its ilk), and the on-line AZ-Proj to see
what the world looks like from the other end of the
QSO. If you need url's to help you find these programs,
let me know and I will look them up again.
Finally, I use various spreadsheets in OpenOffice.org to
keep track of my QSLing and DXCC submissions.

Dave
