[Novalug] Remember to vote!

And while the small-town politico critter is prepping themselves (or not)
for their next elective office (this is America, where today's community
organizer or small town mayor can aspire to nationwide office, not just the
folks who've spent most of their career in the Senate), they have great
influence over all sorts of things affecting your day-to-day life.
Decisions about zoning, routing power lines, siting generation plants,
building the next subdivision, school curriculum, and how much tax to put on
you next Bic Mac don't get made at either end of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Aren't the entire DC City Council up for election today? Slot machine
gambling is on the ballot in Maryland. And some open or closely contested
for a change Congressional seats in VA. Reason enough for me.

Many states have a requirement that a "minor" party needs to get a certain %
of the vote in the general election to automatically remain on the ballot
for the next election. Otherwise they have to collect petitions, that are
open to challenge by the two big parties. There's a reason to vote 3rd
party if the major party candidates are utterly unpalatable to your
political taste.

Or shamelessly cash-in on the free stuff business are giving out today (not
that they can withhold if you didn't vote, but this way you can get the
"free as in beer" without guilt).

Besides, the long lines are gone for the moment. My wife reported 10
minutes total to vote at most (Line? What line?), and she was able to park
in front of the school.
