[Novalug] PAE extensions, any negative aspects?

On my 32-bit Fedora 9 system I have 4GB of memory
installed. Using the standard kernels (i686) only
3GB of the RAM is seen. I've just installed the
PAE (Physical Address Extensions) version of the
same kernel and on reboot all 4GB are visible.

Are there any downsides to using the running
the PAE enabled kernel version?

I presume memory access has slightly more overhead.
A search on the internet turned up pages that were
mostly 3-6 years old but did not indicate any
significant problems. Those that did say perform-
ance was affected said "1-10%" but cited no data.
