The godaddy issue was mentioned in a Pauldotcom.com Security Weekly
podcast about a month ago.

In the case they were talking about, the person had forgotten
to update the expiration date of their credit card and didn't
notice the e-mails from godaddy.  So even though the person
had turned on auto-renewal, godaddy let the domain expire,
and then auctioned the domain to the highest bidder.
