Fwiw, Alexandria uses a voting machine by Hart Intercivic called the
E-Slate. I think it is very good. One feature is that while is DRE
(Direct Recording something), it does not have the ability to get
online. At the end of the day electiojn officials AND party designees
eyeball the totals. I don't see how it is possible to cheat. I have been
told that the software has been audited. I suppose the OS is Linux, but
no one has said so.
One thing puzzles me. When Secretaries of State or whoever was getting
bids for voting machines asked for the code so that it could be audited
and were told that they couldn't see it because it was proprietary, why
didn't they immediately say, "Okay, don't let the door hit you on the
butt on the way out."
