Twenty years in Northern Virginia made us so allergic to
spam of all kinds, and especially phone spam, that we refuse to
touch voice mail -- even to the point of never finding out how to
get into it. When we learned that the nasty noises every time we
picked up the phone were an indication we had voice mail, we got
it removed from the account.
That hasn't hurt us. We just check caller ID often enough
to spot any desired calls that came while we were out, and return
those. And, of course, encourage all & sundry to use email
instead.
Spamfiltering is far from ideal, for many reasons; but
it's a lot better than any phone filtering I know about.
