alright here is what happened:
My Ubuntu was working fine no problems. Then my comcast internet went down
due to their system being down. When my vista computer came up again it
switched the local ip on me via dchp, that kinda thing. and now my vista was
using my ubuntu server's ip. this shut down my server of course. What I did
was force vista to manually use its original ip thereby freeing up the
server ip, but when i rebooted server it kept using the new ip instead of
the old server ip. so i used ifconfig to assign the correct ip
(198.162.1.101) to ubuntu server. this worked and eth0 was now showing the
.101 ip and i was able to ping the router and all my local network computers
etc. i was not able to ping any internet addresses though like
www.google.com etc. was not a huge problem for me untul today when i tried
to do apt-get update and all there are many errors connecting to
sources.list sites.
so, what did i forget to do? do i need to assign a DSN info or something to
etho? I know there is a problem with ubuntu resolving the internet addresses
but i dont know whre to start.
thanks for any help
Norman
