[Novalug] Atheros or Other WiFi Adapter Linux Support Question

All -

I have an HP laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 (64 bit, up to date but not
9.10). It has a built in Atheros AR5009 802.11 a/g/n WiFi Adapter.

It's dual boot, and while the wifi works fine in Windows, in Linux it
has a hard time making and keeping a network connection.

Is there anything I can do to improve this situation? Alternatively,
can you recommend a USB wifi card with good Linux support?

I did some research online, and there was some talk about madwifi. I
guess madwifi is a replacement for the builtin wifi drivers? They
were using it in cases where the wifi card was not recognized at all,
and this is not my situation. Would you recommend my trying it
anyway? Here are some links I found:

BTW, is it ok to post this message to the three groups, or is that a
no-no?

Thanks,
Keith
