Works again.. wondering if the steady stream of Fedora 12 update rpms
are fixing things.. that's the way it's supposed to work, and with
enough patience, problems disappear.

Either the F12 kernel can't find the IOAPIC in my machine or it doesn't
have one. Either way it appears as though some hardware related code is
attempting to make APIC calls and a sandtrap for those calls may be
catching them and triggering kernel oopses. From F10 and on every time
I book, I get a little pop up about the kernel crashing, but the machine
still runs fine. In Fedora 12 these are handled really nicely by Abrt
(?) and I'm impressed.. Way better than Windows.
