[Novalug] app for sound input ??

hi,

I'm looking for a recommendation sound app so that I 
can 

1: record from line input
2: record from mic input

What I want is reliability, and as a user,
a reasonably easy to use GUI to run the app.
I also want to install the app from the F12 DVD.

recall that I installed initially from the Live CD
and it is the gnome desktop.  Since then, I installed most of
the base KDE.  So I guess it's not overly important if the
"recorder" is fde or gnome, or some other included on the 
install DVD.

One Q is: how important is knowing the sound chipset
for this recommmendation.  Mine should be pretty generic
soundblast compat I think.  Maybe lspci gives it away ?

Right now, I don't think anything is installed ( cant' find a
app built-in from menus ) and the "software add"  wants to go to 
the net somehow while I * don't *.   I'll use the DVD.

I don't plan on extensive use: just some basic one time
- maybe two time - or occasional home recording.
