[Novalug] Linux + video camera?

my wife got me a Sony video camera (a Webbie) for Christmas. It was 
broken and I returned it to Target, but they had none in stock so they 
gave me a refund. The idea was great, something I can take with me when 
I go offroading / camping / or wherever and take pictures or video. 
Since I have to reshop anyway, I thought I'd ask to see what is Linux 
friendly? Who is using what?
