Long ago and far away, it fell to me and two Teaching
Assistants to give two sections of a ten-hour-per-week intensive
German course -- so intensive that we routinely did three
semesters' work in one, not just two.

The TAs decided it would wear them out least to teach a
full week, then a week off, etc. So I taught the first week of
one section, the second week of the other, etc.; I figured that
way I'd have personal contact with all the students.

It worked; but from the second week on, each class felt
that it had a real teacher and a substitute; and I was one in the
first, and the other in the other.

People are more like deer than they think : creatures of
habit.
