[Novalug] Where is the connectivity problem

List,
The following problem has arisen. I am finding it both annoying and puzzling.
I composed a rather lengthy email a few hours ago using Evolution. I put
quite a bit of effort into it, making sure I said exactly what I wanted
to, etc. All of this is under Ubuntu 6.06, because I have many issues with
8.04. (Hardy Heron, isn't it? What is 6.06? Dapper Drake?) But when I went
to send it a small error screen popped up saying it couldn't resolve an
error. So, I say, it's Verizon's fault or PatriotNet's fault and
everything will be ok in a few hours. Firefox shouldn't work. I checked it
didn't. So I went to bed, leaving my computer on instead of shutting down
as per usual.
Now I get up and sit down at the computer to see what the situation is.
Which is, seemingly, the same. Can't send the message in the outbox. Can't
browse with Firefox. Can and did receive the night's mail. But I decide to
try one more thing, SquirrelMail, which worked: I could and did send
myself a test mail. Then I minimized SquirrelMail, successfully browsed,
tried mailing under Evolution and failed, minimized it and called up
SquirrelMail, which had been minimized again and composed this message,
which I expect to succeed. And I expect to be able to browse. (If not, you
won't see this message.)
In sum, if I try to use Evolution, I can't send but can receive email and
can't browse using Firefox. But if I use SquirrelMail, everything works
with the exception that I can't send the draft message. This is as it
should be. I shouldn't expect SquirrelMail to reach into Evolution.
Comments? Suggestions?
