[Novalug] Hardy Evolution problem

As noted previously, I had so many problems with Ubuntu 8.04 that I went
back to 6.06. But tonight I decided to take a few minutes to explore.

After booting (no easy task, but what I encountered is irrelevant to the
problem I am about describe) I went first went to Evolution to get my
mail. So when I got there, the Send/Receive Mail box was grayed out!

Hunh?!

Thoughts, workarounds welcome.
