There are a number of free pdf viewers for linux. 

Which linux are you running.

Ubuntu comes with one already installed. All you have to do is click on 
the pdf document and it should open.

otherwise you can go online and look for xpdf.

To export. In some cases (depending on the pdf viewer's capabilities) once 
the viewer is opened all you need to do is select the contents, copy it to 
the clip board and then paste it into your text editor (such as gedit). 
Then save the text file.

Similarly you can either e-mail it as a pdf file attached to an e-mail or 
paste the copied text into the e-mail.

When you export the text out you will loose special formatting such as 
font sizes and colors but the paragraphs will stay ok. Columnar stuff may 
be messed up (as in tables and side by side paragraphs).
