[Novalug] More ? on Ubuntu, ATI drivers and Compaq Presario

Dear List;
    I have 2 rechargers for old Compaq laptops. These are for machines 
more than 4 years old.
    They are extremely expensive to buy as replacements  > $100.  I 
think one goes to an old
    Compaq with 100 fsb.  I have sold off  all the other parts to these 
2 laptops.

    I also have an Epson USB flat bed scanner.  It has a slight flaw 
creating a rainbow edge about 1/2 inch
    wide in lower left quadrant. Other than that it's fine for example 
if you used it to make scans of
    4x6 or  8x10 photos you would never see it after cropping the scan.

    I also have 2 Dell 2 button mice, I think they're PS/2 mice.

    I have most of the parts to a Microcenter brand  "Winbook"  Z-1 laptop.
    It is a 1 GHz Pentium III, 100 fsb, system. The Hard disk controller 
chip is dead.
    I already took the HD,  but it is a removable media bay style laptop 
so I have >>>
    The plug in Zip-250 drive, The plug in CD-RW drive, and the plug in 
spare battery.
    I also have the recharger, and the  256 MB So-DIMM.  ..... By the 
way the CPU is
    removable !!!
