hi,

enable irqbalance or not ?

I have one physical chip in a 2.8Ghz P4
When I start the System Monitor graph, it
shows 2 scrolling lines showing CPU usage: CPU 1 and CPU 2.
They follow each other mostly but the usage is not equal.

Now, remembering from a few years ago when "hyperthreading"
was possible, I recall that they called the additional "core 2" in
some sense. And hyperthreading only actually gave some minimal extra
performance for a desktop, say 15%.

It's been awhile since I've read an Intel architecture manual
but I should understand an answer. Anyone know
what CPU 1 and 2 means here? Or do I need to get a number from
the chip body ?

and, mostly, should I enable irqbalance, and are there any other
kernel daemons that are related to this that "should" be running ?

Using gnome desktop for mostly desktop stuff, web browsing, etc..

thx,

Walt..........
