If you're using Intel graphics, try adding this to your video device section:
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
Then it'll use the same settings as 8.10 uses. It actually keeps my graphics
(i965) from locking (the mouse-moves-but-nothing-else-works thing).
There's also, experimentally, DRI2 available. It makes very pretty smooth
animations like on a better-quality graphics card. It's also, like I said,
experimental. It makes X crash & restart when I suspend if I have compositing
enabled at the time. Which means I just disable compositing before I suspend.
