[Novalug] question about ls

With my Ubuntu Gutsy set up (and previous set ups) when I have done

ls *something*

it will give be all the things with something in it but it does it 
recursively and gives me a listing of all the subdirectories with 
something .

is there a way i get ls to just give me back the files names *somehing* at 
the current level of the directory structure?
