What I want to know is why dolphin even exists. Wasn't konqueror good enough? How does either compare with Nautilus, or more to the point, Windows Explorer.
Personally, I like konqueror because of the File Size View and Cervisia (is there a plugin for subversion too?) plugins.
World Domination will never happen if we keep reinventing the wheel. I get only to have tired of having to learn these GUI programs (most of which are incomplete) only to have to relearn a new one when the next distro comes out.
M$ sticks with one thing and perfects the interface. This makes the users feel comfortable and leverages their existing skills. When they do make a change, it is usually revolutionary, like Office 2007, and done with a whole lot of user feedback and focus group. Since we don't typically have those kind of resources, our changes should be more incremental.
Look, I must be pretty pretty pissed off if I am praising M$.

Yesterday, I was fuming about the spacing of the icons in Dolphin in KDE 4.1.
I couldn't find a way to change it to make the view more compact.
Although, there doesn't appear to be a GUI tool, there is a configuration file
that can be tinkered with. It's .kde4/config/dolphinrc. The default spacing is
fixed, but can be changed with an editor.
