 	Tried again both ways.

It may well be better; but I know scp, more or less, and
all I've ever gotten around to learning about rsync is how to
spell it.

I tried again, spelling things out, and discovered that 0
had crept in for 1. Here are the two commands that finally
worked, or seemed to. (But now I have another trouble: the
machine connects, but some apps think it doesn't -- and won't let
me install OpenOffice...)

[tslg at BBB ~]$ scp -rv 192.168.1.104:/home/tslg/*
192.168.1.105:/home/tslg

         followed by

scp -rv 192.168.1.104:/home/tslg/.* 192.168.1.105:/home/tslg
