I need to upgrade the HD on my Thinkpad. I've got a dual-boot Ubuntu /
Window$, including a "hidden" partition at the end of the disk with the
Win recovery stuff. I'm up-to-date thru SP3 on Win and the thought of
going thru another install of Win has kept me from doing the upgrade
(boot, re-boot ad nauseum). (During the last SP install I had to
un-install software to make room for "temp" files during the install
I don't believe that a "raw" copy of disk contents will do the trick.
I've thought of partitioning the drive in a fashion similar to what I
have now, albeit with larger partitions, and copying the contents to the
new drive sitting in an external housing, then, putting that into my
Laptop. I'm guessing that I'd have to boot from a Linux CD to get to
grub and install info on the MBR.
Thoughts based on experience? HD recommendations - a faster drive would
be nice (SATA's too new for this beast).
