[Novalug] Liquid cooling experience and information

Thanks to all who recommended an Apple. I think Apple makes very good
equipment and would love to use them. Unfortunately a Mac Pro is one of the
machines that had to be returned due to overheating. I have asked the
apple folks about liquid cooling and not been impressed with their response.

The top end iMac is also Core i7 (if you get the proc upgrade.) Comes to
$2200, includes monitor and keyboard. Performance is impressive. [1]

If I were to pick up a new Mac today, it would probably be the Core i7 iMac.
When Apple revs the Mac Pro (likely in 1Q10), I'd consider that one.

Dell also has some Core i7 systems. I don't have first hand knowledge of
their i7 boxes, but never had a problem with their Core 2 Duo or P4 based
systems. I expect they have figured out the heat issues. A sample set of
1, their XPS 9000 starts at $900 for a Core i7 system.

Why not an Apple Pro. You get 2 I7's for 3.5K and no wires in box. We have
one runing Centos 5.4 never a single heat problem.

Thanks Igor, it looks like a good product. Are you using Core-I7 (LGA 1366)
processors in this box?

We have built a system around a Thermaltake Armor LCS chassis:

Works great..

We just returned our third Intel Core I7-based workstation because of heat
related halts. All we want is a Core I7 (even the low end model) based
system with 12 GB DDR-1066 and a single Nvidea GTX 260 video card that can
run for over an hour without a heat issue.

Since all of the workstations we returned were air cooled it made me wonder
if we should consider liquid cooled products, but I know next to nothing
about this.

Where can I find good "Liquid cooling for Dummies" - style information ?
Have you had any good or bad experience with liquid cooled workstations that
you could share?

Thanks!
Cliff
