> Subject: [Novalug] Brother Printer Issues
> Last month bought a Brother MFC-5490CN from Microcenter.  Supposedly this printer has full Linux support.

I have been using the Brother HL-4040CDN Color Laser Printer in a LAN
environment that services Linux, OSX and Windows7. The printer I'm
using has worked flawlessly and I'm extremely pleased with the print
quality, print speed, features, support, ROI etc...

I bought this printer because I too became absolutely sick and tired
of inkjet printer after inkjet printer of all brands -- being a
worthless piece of junk and not printing properly. EPSON was my
nemesis in particular. I have had bad experiences with Canon, HP,
Epson, Dell and Lexmark. I admit I have not owned a Brother inkjet
model.

I just wanted to say that I wouldn't write Brother off as a printer
brand, as all the brands seem to have the same problems in certain
inkjet models. The "All-in-one" crap hasn't helped either. But
overall, I think Brother is one of the better printer manufacturers,
and as laser printers are down around the $300~ mark, I would suggest
examining moving from inkjet to laser if your budget allows it. I made
this investment and I am extremely pleased with the resulting printing
improvements I have enjoyed as a result of taking this step.
