I have two Seagate external 2.5" drives, both 500G in size, and will
probably buy another one very soon. Microcenter had these for $109 six
months ago and, depending on what color you like (silver, white, blue,
black, red and green) some appear to be $109 again.
I've seen these drives mentioned repeatedly online in discussions of
whether solid state discs (SSDs) consume less power than hard drives.
The consensus appears to be SSDs use less than most hard drives, but
Seagate's putting some good engineering into making these use very
little and giving SSDs competition in regards to power savings.
I'm buying Seagate's right now because I've been happy when them
recently and they have FIVE YEAR WARRANTIES. As I expect them all to
fail, a FIVE year warranty is like a free insurance policy that should
get me a new drive between years 3 and 5 ;)
No problem running these drives on my old HP laptop or new HP netbook
while on battery.. Very little power use required, it seems.
