Can you be more specific here?  If you're looking to contribute to a
free / open source software project there are ways to get involved, and
areas projects would prefer contributors to start.  It somewhat reads
like you'll evaluate your contributions based on what other people think of
projects.

Not that there's anything wrong with that if you make good
contributions, but it's not something I've heard of.
