Linux doesn't need marketing to survive, it just continues on.

to HP's logo without the logo of the major Linux distributor that paid
far more of a role?
Reality ...
Linux, and FLOSS in general, is about source code. You spend money on
source code, not branding. Linux branding is word-of-mouth.
Doesn't matter if you're no-name Linux distro or Red Hat, word-of-mouth
branding. Anything else detracts from writing source code or other
contributions.
