[Novalug] New Cable adapter

I got totally PO'd at Cox and their cable modems. I had on again, off
again problems. Went through Toshiba, Motorola and Zoom modems, each
time buying something that was on "their" list only to find that their
list would change and that they wouldn't support it 6 months later when
I was still having intermittent problems. In the end I gave up and
switched.

Here's an evil little trick to try with Cox.. Double check this to see
if this still works. It used to be you could sign up for their
"protection program" for $4/month. With that plan in place they would
replace your modem for free, with one of theirs.. The deal was that you
could drop the plan anytime you want, so you can basically get a
replacement modem for cheap. The only "gotcha" was that once you quit
the plan you couldn't sign up for it again for 1 year. So if you're
overall happy with everything else then that's not much of a risk.

This trick might not work anymore, but it might worth checking out. Best
of luck,
