Depends on the vendor, but both HP and Dell have SNMP-based hardware
health software.  You can configure the software to send traps to Nagios
when something has gone wrong.  Otherwise you're stuck making monitors
for everything that could go wrong, dead batteries, fans, power
supplies, etc.
