This is not true:
$ sudo lvs -v vg_test
Using logical volume(s) on command line
LV VG #Seg Attr LSize Maj Min KMaj KMin Origin Snap%
Move Copy% Log Convert LV UUID
lv_test vg_test 1 owi-a- 12.00m -1 -1 253 5

Yes, it's fine to run off a snapshot. You can also merge a snapshot to
its origin with a current enough distro. See the man page of lvconvert.
