[Novalug] Strange SSD

I had some disk problems with a Fedora box. So I
decided to update the storage a bit with a large
SATA disk and a Solid State Drive for the OS.

For the SSD, I went cheap and got a Micro Center
branded 64GB drive. It uses a recent SandForce
controller which I understand is one of the better
performing controllers. I hope my cheapness is
not the cause of my problem.

I repartitioned the SSD using the partition tool
in the Fedora 14 installer. Partitions 1&2 were
for swap and /boot. Partition 3 was an LVM
physical volume. I added it to a volume group
and created a logical volume for / and allocated
about 60% of the space.

Something hung in the install, shortly after
applying the new partitioning. I rebooted into
an F14 "live CD" and confirmed the partitioning
took effect. However, after a while (I think
about 2 hrs later) the partitions were no longer
visible. Any operations errored. When I looked
at the system messages it said the interface had
reset and switched from SATA II speed (3Gb/s) to
SATA I speed (1.5Gb.s). Further the message
said the partitions were no longer visible. Hence
the errors :)

I've rebooted the system into the live CD or the
install disk. The partitions are visible initially
but as above, the drive begins to error. Where I
could see logs, again there were the messages about
interface reset to SATA I.

Anyone have thoughts about how to proceed? Return it?

Jon
