That's the problem.  The "universal" (i.e., "proprietary") "modular plug"
continues to be vendor-specific.  You have to buy their tips and hope
they stick around.

You'd probably have a better chance, long-term, by going to Radio Shack
who typically tries to keep some longevity (although it's hit-n-miss with
them outsourcing more and more).
