   Tnx much for pointing that out - hadn't thought about that
"feature".  I picked up
an old freebie DSL modem as backup in case the official Verizon one
borks.  Doing
the same for FiOS prolly won't be an option for many years.  Having an alternate
DSL modem is also useful for diagnosing DSL trubs for neighbors and convincing
the tech in India that the problem is indeed a modem problem.  Again, prolly not
an option for FiOS "home detective" work.
