[Novalug] PROBLEM: Wanting to use LIRC remote to select user in GDM (Ubuntu 10.04)

There is a module in lirc to make it emulate a mouse (lircmd), but I was
never able to get it to work. I don't think it was mapping to the right
thing in udev (don't know very much about it, but it seemed to point at
/dev/lircd instead of /dev/lirc0 or something). That might give you a
starting point (at least something to look at). I ended up mapping
applications to buttons on the remote and starting them up from the desktop
using a single "media" user that automatically logs on. I use it with XBMC
and Hulu Desktop for Linux.
