[Novalug] [OT] laptop "repair"

Just replace the whole keyboard. I buy them on eBay all the time - you can usually get brand new ones for a very reasonable price, just watch out where it is coming from - many come from Hong Kong, which is ok but takes a little longer.

Most laptops make it pretty easy to replace the keyboard. First you need to remove the button board, and to do that you may need to remove a few screws from the bottom of the computer. Many laptops use screws under the battery, so check there. Once you remove the button board there are usually just two screws holding down the keyboard, and it is attached by a ribbon cable to the motherboard.

Subject: [Novalug] [OT] laptop "repair"

I need to fix a laptop which is missing the "S" key.

I have the key, but the rubber sheet is torn out, and there's no "spring" to it, it just lays there. I can still type without it, a finger press in the hole works, but (obviously) it's a right PITA.

Anyone know any quick fixes or tricks for this kind of problem? I'd rather not disassemble the whole thing and replace that sheet for just one key.
