[Novalug] Charlie's printing problem

FWIW...

This afternoon Charlie and I tried to get his HP printer to work on my
Ubuntu box. It didn't work.

The system did see the printer, recognized
that the driver was missing, located the driver and I could download it
without problems (I wrote down only hplip-3.9.8-plugin.run...). The
printer appeared in the GUI: nothing seemed awry. But, it didn't print.

I tried printing a sample with my own printer. This didn't work either,
but the system told me, properly as it turned out, that the printer
cable wasn't connected. After fixing this the printer worked again.

So, I don't think it's my system, it's Charlie's printer. To be honest,
I didn't think of checking whether the printer had a cartridge: I just
assumed that Charlie must have checked that already, but maybe that was
a bad assumption.

I'm certain Charlie will appreciate input from someone more knowledgeable
than me.
