It could be the "business" division acting differently than
the consumer group. I had a positive interaction with them
on an unrelated matter.  I purchased a Vostro 1520 laptop;
same as their 1520 consumer laptop but only in graphite color.
I chose the Vostro model because the package deals at the time
resulted in a lower price.

Several months after purchase the LED screen developed a crack.
Dell and their repair outsourcers said "user damage". But I
contended that was not the case, it was never transported even,
being use up to that time only on my lap watching TV.

Unfortunately I had not taken their "all events" warranty
which would even do repairs for accidental damage. This was
available only at purchase or the first month after. I continued
my insistance that the crack was for some other reason than
user damage and the phone person contacted my "business rep"
and they worked out what I thought was a reasonable resolution.
If I would "retroactively purchase" a year's worth of their
warranty coverage for $69 they would repair the LED "under
warranty". Compared to several hundred dollars to repair,

I felt that was a good and imaginative resolution.
