[Novalug] Pointer to using RAID10 with LVM

All,
Last fall there was a good bit of discussion on software RAID
using just LVM (without the md driver), and it was suggested
that RAID10 was possible in that configuration. I can find lots
of information on doing either RAID0 (striping) or RAID1
(mirroring), but I can't find much about RAID10 (stripes of
mirrors).
There's this thread with subject "Will LVM2 ever be able to do
striped mirrors 'raid10'?" on the Linux-lvm mailing list:
http://readlist.com/lists/redhat.com/linux-lvm/0/3704.html
The reply indicates that RAID10 is possible, but it's a very
manual process.
The following reference seems to indicate that LVM-based RAID10
is possible, but it doesn't sounds like a ringing endorsement of
the concept (it leaves me feeling that LVM-based RAID10 might be
suboptimal or problematic):

Does anyone know of any better references on the subject?
If you've setup RAID10 before without using the MD driver, were
you satisfied with the setup, and how did you accomplish it?
Thanks,
Michael Henry
