[Novalug] print servers

hoping the list can offer up some advice on this matter:

we have an HP LaserJet 2420 at home. my partner works from home 3 days
a week, so her company gave it to her for printing at home. only
drawback is that it's a USB printer, so she has to be physically near
it to print. what i'd like to do is put it on the network, so she can
print from anywhere in the apartment over wireless.

problem: all the usb print servers i have browsed at newegg have
pretty mixed reviews. does anyone here have any experience with any
rock solid usable print servers? what i really need is something that
will work with ubuntu as well as windows (xp & 7). i also want to
avoid paying over $100 for the official HP print server that gets
plugged into the back of the printer.
