[Novalug] Meeting Schedule

Here's what I'm planning:
Repair, Rebuild, Reinvent. How the open-source maker culture is changing the world.
Cheap, efficient mass production has brought us to the point where everything is disposable, where it's easier to replace than to repair, where local industry has been displaced by big box retailers hawking boring products produced with cheap foreign labor and where most people go about their day completely dependent on "black-box" technology with no real understanding of how it works.
Makers are changing all of that.
I'm going to talk about where the maker movement came from, where it is today, and where it's headed. But mostly, I want to talk about the technology. What is available today, and what is coming in the near future. Everything from wearable microcontrollers and conductive thread to robots made from junk. Learn about 3D printers that can print copies of themselves, CNC machines that can carve sculptures out of aluminum blocks, and all kinds of machines being built by makers in garages around the world.
You might also be surprised to learn just how easy (and inexpensive!) it can be to get started with some of the coolest technologies being built today.
