Not so sure I agree there. As with any subject to present in only 2
hours, you have to master the art of limiting yourself. Just as I would
have to limit myself to editors, shells, perl release etc. if the talk
was standard linux administration scripting.

The choices are important yes but it's not too hard to do here. Talking
MVC doesn't mean you have to use Java. Ruby and Perl has similar
constructs. Even C++. MVC is a model can easily be transferred to other
(object oriented) languages.

Of course a talk would have to be using a specific solution/context. But
it doesn't mean people of different platforms cannot take something from
the talk.

That's pretty much far out, and I think you know that. With that type of
argumentation, everything programming was pretty much done when we had
defined the components of "if, while, for, repeat, assignments". All
languages are just repetitions of those core features. With all the
development of plugin apps to pretty much any platform, there's still a
huge market for developers/programmers.

But if you were trying to say that gone are the days where a programmer
would define the whole premise of the application, yeah; that went away
almost a decade ago.

My guess is that the developers/software interested people are just more
silent on the list. I was simply trying to see if I could awaken some of
them :)

For disclosure purposes - I've done primarily SA and EA type functions
for the last 5 years. I'm not a day-to-day developer. However, these
principles and features are key for software development even today. So
I thought there would be an interest in them.
