Ya remember what social networking was 20 years ago? We did not call it
YouTube either - IRC. Why am I going to query a list when I can write in a
forum (channel) where the author of the software I'm having problems with
might read my query?

But, it really depends on content. Ie, I don't read Reddit because the
people there (both questioners and answers / oppinions). And, yes some of
the lists I read sometimes irritate me (eg, debian-user "don't use wd discs
because I had four fail" - you can google it if you want my thoughts on the
matter)

Oh, per irc, there are a few channels I stay away from because of the mean
iq - #javascript, and #debian come to mind. Otoh, #kernel, #asm, #selinux,
#nmap (sometimes), and #perl to name a few have some of the best content /
smartest people on the net. I know of very few mailing lists with the same
depth of knowledge.
