Quite elementary my dear Doc Watson .. it's called a storage array.
Quite common for video storage to have extreme large volumes for the
daily recordings. The "smart" ones split up in many "less" TB arrays to
manage the IOs but the arrays are getting smart enough today to optimize
even for that.

I get all nostalgic and think about the time I had to count spindles and
sector reads to put my DB files on the right location to avoid IO
contention. Those were the olden days .. all gone now.
