A friend loaned me a USB floppy drive a few years ago.  I plugged it
in and immediately started using it to copy files off of floppies onto
the hard drive.  Granted, I was backing up old .qwk bundles from my
BBS days, but I didn't have to do anything special to get the drive to
work.
