[Novalug] unknown monitor and desktop selection

Update,

   FC6 installs the monitor at generic 800x600, works fine.  Ubuntu
11.10 installs the monitor at generic 1024x768, works horribly, but
FC6 at 1024x768 (renders color okay) has some flicker on vids, so
the problem prolly is my S3 Virge vid card being too wussy.  So,
next step, scrounge up a better vid card.  Neither system knows
what an HP vs15 is, but I found an online manual for it and got
enough specs to do some manual (pun intended) tweaking.  I
have no clue if the Ubuntu color rendering will be okay yet, of
course.
