Closer, but I still read 'code words'. What is an application service?
I am not trying to be a pain (really!) but if you can give a
real-world example that would help.

I would use packaging (rpm, deb) with dependencies and then
chef/puppet/katello to do what you want, I think.... But without a
flow and example, that is a guess.
