Can anybody in the Winchester Area recommend any handyman or other
services that could mount an antenna on my roof for me?
I've been 'struggling' with a lousy ISP, Wave2Net and given poor service,
high latentcy, and a big monthly price tag for the last 3 years since
coming to Winchester.
Where I live, Cedar Creek Grade (Rt.622) south of Opequon is a
wasteland for Internet services. No Cable, CO Too far for DSL, and Forget
HugesNet or Wild Blue as their service is just as lousy as Wave2Net I
hear.
I work for Sprint and was issued an EVDO card for the laptop and inside
the house I can get only 1xRTT speeds with a 150dn/100up max. The EVDO
signal stops about a mile away from my house.
Outside with an external Antenna at ground level I have been able to
get EVDO speeds with weak signal. Placing the antenna on the roof should
bring the signal in and give me comprable speeds as my existing connection
of 700dn/300up and possibly even better. The signal could be even better
with an amp.
Which brings me to mounting the new Antenna on the roof. I've called
several handyman services in Winchester and NOBODY is returning my calls.
I even called A1/Antenna, thinking they would be able to help and was
told, "We don't do antennas anymore".
I need to find an insured company that will be willing to spend 2 hours to
come to my house and mount my new antenna on the roof, feed a line into
the vent and take down the Wave2Net antenna.
I don't want some 'fly by night' company that if the guy survived the
fall off my roof would he would be looking to take over my house once
he healed up..
Wave2Net would charge me anyway to take down the antenna and I couldn't
trust them to properly seal the holes made from their mount.
Anybody know of a company that actually RETURNS CALLS and is willing to do
a small job? 20 years ago I would have been all over this roof myself but
not now.
